You might think that nothing exciting ever happens in Wichita, Kansas, the city where I live. And by most people’s standards, you’d be right. Here in the middle of fly-over country, we live life at a slower pace; governed by a different set of standards, possessing a unique appreciation for the amazing things that happen in the world around us. You might think that we’re easily amused. And you might assume that means we’re simple and narrow-minded.
But that couldn’t be further from the truth. Most of the residents of the largest city in Kansas, one of the reddist states in the Union, are surprisingly urban. We enjoy theater, music, and sports just like any other metropolitan area. We have opera, a symphony orchestra, art galleries and more restaurants per-capita than many larger cities in the midwest. Wichita has a highly skilled workforce inside the aerospace industry as the headquarters of Learjet, Cessna, Hawker Beechcraft, and Spirit Aerosystems. And Wichita has me.
I’m a nearly fifty year old white guy who never had a formal education, worked hard at a variety of jobs including broadcasting, law enforcement, sales, and customer service. I definitely married up, and I have a wonderful wife and a couple of great sons to show for it.
If you read this blog, you’ll find out that it’s not just about who I am and where I live, but how I see the world around me; how a distinctly mid-western point of view reconciles with the rest of the traditional and new media perspectives, and what I think is important to the rest of us.
Take it with a grain of salt, understand that it reflects simply the opinions of one easily-amused guy in Wichita, Kansas. Comment if you wish, but don’t expect to enter any great debates on civilization or humanity here.
There are many of us who don’t fit the mold of conservative, liberal, moderate or progressive. Some of us just want to be human, and evolve up into whatever comes next. If that’s you, then you’ve found a friend.
I’m a simple guy, with a few amusing stories to share. That’s it. If you like what you read, tell someone. Connect with me on facebook, twitter, or by email. I look forward to sharing with you.
Enjoy your day.
